“How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.” Psalm 119:1 (NASB95)
How Blessed - O how very happy (Psalm 119:1; 1:1)
Not just blessed but oh how very blessed
Overflowing with blessings - It isn’t in possessions but in the heart
Way - their path of life, pattern for life
Blameless - known for being a person of integrity
Walk - live as a lifestyle
The law of the LORD - God’s Word. The Jews understood this to mean the Pentateuch - Genesis through Deuteronomy (The Law). We as believers today have the complete Word of God (God’s Law).
An Application to Life
How different would my life be if I was more familiar with the Old Testament? It’s easy to read the New Testament and draw applications. The Old Testament must be studied. It isn’t our culture. One of our favorite sayings is, “We’re no longer under the Law because Jesus fulfilled the Law.”
This is true, but do we simply forget about the Law? Do we not gain a knowledge of what sin is, or God’s wrath, or how He kept His promises of blessings, or understand the severity of breaking a Covenant (contract) with God?
For example, have I ever made a promise to God? To God that’s a Covenant. He never breaks His Covenants.
“Oh, I wasn’t thinking when I make that promise. He understands.” Did you? Does He?
“Well, I’ll just confess it as sin, and His blood will wash it away, and He’ll never remember it again.” Really? You treat the sacrifice of the Savior so lightly?
Father, forgive me!!! So often I’m so flippant about Your Word, Your Promises, my promises and my commitments to You, and my lifestyle. I need to stop, take a breath, and realize that my relationship with You, the Almighty God, the God of the Universe, is the greatest treasure I can possess. Help me keep my pattern of life blameless and my lifestyle pure, grounded on the foundation of Your Word, Your complete Word. Remind me to stay blameless in Your eyes.
