Proverbs 16:7
Does the word “He/he” in Proverbs 16:7 refer to the LORD or the individual whose ways are pleasing to the LORD?
Proverbs 16:7 - When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. (NASB95)
Translations differ with some making this refer to the LORD while others to the one whose ways are pleasing to the LORD.
Pondering the passage can lead one to see the thought both ways, but which was meant by the writer and the Holy Spirit as the Author?
I propose that both are correct. Proverbs is very clear that the LORD guards and guides the way of the one who follows Him. The result of this and the context of Proverbs 16 teaches us that as we follow the LORD we will make wise decisions.
Wise decisions will lead to living peaceably with all men (Romans 12:18; Hebrews 12:14).
The reality is that if the Lord Jesus is living His life through us, we will have enemies (2 Timothy 3:12).
In Proverbs 16:7, God gives us the ability to live at peace with our enemies, so the “he” refers to us. But it is God who works in us to bring about His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13), so the “He” refers to God. (Smile here).
Allow the Holy Spirit to apply His Word and work through you bringing peace with your enemies and allowing you to make peace with your enemies.
Stay faithful,

Isaiah 26:3 comes to mind also. He (God) will keep him (believer) in perfect peace, whose (believer's) mind is stayed on you (God). Following the Lord with all our heart not only brings peace with others, but internal peace and joy as well. Praise the Lord, from whom all blessings flow!!
